If you want to have good people with their hearts in the right place, the Ruby Valley is a great place to be.”

Featured in the film is Jim and Jean’s yellow Labrador retriever.Dogs are vital to the waterfowling tradition in North America. “Our dogs are a big part of our family,” Jim explained. “They are important to the experience.” Jean Prough concurred with her husband. “There is nothing better than seeing your dogwork toflush a bird or retrieve a bird,” she said.

Montana is a very important waterfowl habitat state, it ranks third in duck production in the lower 48 states. Ducks Unlimited is very involved here, restoring and enhancing over 75,000 acres of wetlands in the state. Most of Montana’s waterfowl production areas, wildlife refuges and state wildlife management areas have benefited from DU projects.

Another benefit to wetlands conservation is water conservation, an important part of DU’s work as Jim Prough clarified. “The U.S. is very lucky because we don’t have to worry about turning on a tap and no water coming out. We’ve got to have water for the future. That leads to what DU is all about. They are really about future generations and access to water.”
