Highs and Lows

Film Overview

Highs & Lows is the story of how bowhunting changed a young man’s life for the better. At a very young age, Kellen Binger was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Cystinosis. Due to this disease, Kellen’s kidneys began to fail, and he was forced to receive a kidney transplant from his dad. Kellen grew up in a hockey family, but was forced to quit hockey when checking was introduced to the game at age twelve. That same year, Kellen was introduced to hunting, and was able to harvest his first deer during Wisconsin’s nine day gun season. As years went on Kellen continued to hunt and picked up bow hunting two years later, after his dad bought him his first bow. Kellen hunted hard, but was unable to harvest a deer with his bow. During the summer of 2013, Kellen stepped up to the plate, and started helping out around the farm. Planting food plots, cutting shooting lanes, and setting trail cameras. When he went back to check the cameras in during the middle of the 2013 summer, he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was the biggest buck he had ever seen. A buck with so much mass, and palmation on the inside of his antlers, that Kellen dubbed this buck “Moose.” As the 2013 season approached, Kellen’s health started to deteriorate drastically, and he was forced to spend many days and nights in the hospital. He hunted as much as he could, but was unable to harvest “Moose”. As the summer of 2014 rolled around, he yet again devoted his summer to getting his hopeful shot at the buck he dubbed “Moose.” As the 2014 season rolled around, Kellen had high hopes of getting a shot at moose. On October 8th, Kellen was sitting in his stand, when he heard a noise off to his right. He assumed that it was just squirrels, but stood up and grabbed his bow anyway. It was Moose.
